It's a load of horse shit. Whenever Developers want to deflect they tend to turn it back and blame the gamer. It's part of why we have the bitch-whipped gamer culture we do. They auto flagellate whenever possible.
But this in particular is such an obvious ploy, it defies me why anyone buys it. Civilization V has been a total fucking failure (from this gamer's point of view) since day one. Between the crashes and the bullshit and the weak AI and the bullshit and the endless tedium and the bullshit and you get the idea.
It's just a bad game.
Their last "real" patch for it, when shits got done... was in december. Since then? Not a peep. They made a couple hot fixes but have they communicated shit to the players? Of COURSE not (Except to invite them to come check out their next product, Civilization for Facebook *Knife to Eyes*).
Like a lot of companies I suspect the fine folks at Firaxis have stumbled upon the holy grail of raping their customers. Sell them Patches.
See, it's pretty consistant... the complaint on their forums that the players that the AI is fucking retarded, the game has consistant crashes, and the play is really just empty.
Civ V is like Megan Fox. Sure, she's awful pretty, and you might have fun just fuckin around for a while... but then you actually have to GET TO KNOW the dumb bitch and then the doubt starts to creep in and the eye starts to wander and you start telling yourself that Ginnifer Goodwyn looked pretty hot on that one episode of Big Love... and there you are with a mess all in your jeans.
So, rather than actually Fix anything the fuckers just tell you "Soon" (on the assumption they'll do anything at all) and then promptly sell you a fix in the next expansion.
